Day 5 of my 100 Day Challenge

There are beautiful, exotic looking cacti everywhere in my neighborhood where I walk my dog Maple twice a day. I am always stunned by how different they look from each other and each one begins sprouting blooms and appendages when heavy rains roll through. I think they are quintessentially Mexican although they grow in my native California along with Arizona, New Mexican and Texas as well. While this painting on paper came out a little cartoonish which isn’t a bad thing, it is an attempt at capturing how light varies on just one cactus and how the details make it look otherworldly.
