Day 23 of my 100 Day Painting Challenge
I have been wanting to simplify the shapes and tones in my work for a while now. Fewer brushstrokes and fewer competing colors. It is my attempt to evoke a more peaceful response when you look at a particular piece and to reduce the elements to only the most fundamental in a sky and landscape. These two pieces are headed in that direction
This acrylic on paper piece is 12 x 18 inches and I really love how the gradiation from darker to light up from the horizon line looks. It draws the eye up and the white clouds jump out at you along with the white at the horizon line. It was fun to paint strong, solid colors and to freehand the lines but still need to get steadier with my hand.
This piece uses more colors and I was attempting to be a little more surprising in how they sit with each other but I think the shapes probably don’t have enough variation in them to really work. But still a good attempt and simplifying a sky and landscape.
